Curiosities
The arbutus is a native plant of the Mediterranean region and Western Europe. It survives in zones of high slope, where hardly other cultures survive – its fruit is denominated rain forest fruit. In Portugal, it can be found all over the country, but the highest concentration occurs in the mountains of Caldeirão and Monchique. In some areas it reaches about 10 meters in height, but its average size is between four and five meters.
